Leach Elected Chair of Louisiana Democratic Party
New Chair says sending Charlie Melancon to U.S. Senate is top priority
(Baton Rouge) Today, the Democratic State Central Committee unanimously elected former U.S. Congressman Claude “Buddy” Leach Jr. Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party.
“I am honored and humbled to serve as Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party and I’m ready to get to work” Leach said
A Leesville native, Leach served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1968-1979 and 1984-1988. Leach represented Louisiana’s fourth congressional district in Congress from 1979-1981.
Leach said the upcoming U.S. Senate race, fundraising and building party unity are his top priorities.
“We need to send Charlie Melancon to the U.S. Senate because we deserve to have a Senator with integrity,” Leach said. “We will do everything we can to make sure that happens.”
At the same meeting, Louisiana Democrats passed resolutions calling on Governor Jindal to file a law suit to protect the terms “Who Dat,” “Dat,” “Dem,” and the fluer de lis, calling on U.S. Attorney Jim Letten to conduct a full investigation into allegations that four Republican operatives attempted to tamper with U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu’s phone and commending Saints owners Tom and Rita Benson, along with the team’s players, coaches and administration.
